How to Make Jamaican Jerk Chicken

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

Jerk Chicken is a popular Jamaican dish, loaded with flavor which is why it's one of my favorites! Watch my video below to see how to season your chicken, then continue reading below for cooking instructions. I prefer boneless chicken, however, this recipe can be used on other types of meat.

You have three options for cooking: stovetop, oven, or grill.

For the stovetop, brown the chicken in olive oil over medium heat for 4-5 minutes. Add just enough water to cover the chicken and simmer, covered for 30 minutes.

For the oven, place the chicken in a baking pan and cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, then uncover the chicken and continue baking for 15 more minutes.

For the grill, bake the chicken covered at 350 degrees for at least 30 minutes. Then finish cooking it on the grill while basting it with the gravy, to avoid drying the meat out.

For spicier jerk, add 2 whole scotch bonnet peppers to the pot/pan while cooking. DO NOT burst the peppers - the seeds contain the heat.
